Lovebox London Weekender Festival 2010

Lovebox London Weekender

Lovebox London Weekender

“You can’t beat London as the hippest place on the planet, the Lovebox Weekender is proof of that,” says DJ, Gilles Peterson.

In July this year, the newly expanded site hosted more than 50,000 people in mid July to view some of the best music on the scene from genres including indie, disco-punk, folk, world, rock, hip hop and electronic. Delivered from dramatic sets and stages, the performances were delivered by bands like festival founders, Groove Armada, Duran Duran, hip hop band N.E.R.D., Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires and Ladyhawke.

Despite being set in the heart of the city the overall space adds to the whole experience of the festival with gourmet food and drink stalls, specially designed venues and buildings with hidden corners and leafy vantage points from which to view the stage.

And as winner of the Best Medium Sized Festival in the UK Festival Awards 2008 it isn’t surprising that Lovebox London Weekender is becoming one of the essential events on the London cultural calendar.

Set in Victoria Park bordering Bethnal Green, Hackney and Bow, the event has become synonymous with cool urban happenings and super-charged rock and roll and dance.

A monster of a festival set on the bonny banks of Loch Ness, RockNess is a three-day festival known for its individual mix of rock and dance music and fast becoming as much of a Scottish institution as wee Nessie itself.

The location is at Dores near Inverness and the festival takes place in June with camping available in what has been called “the most beautiful location in the world.”

RockNess was spawned by Fatboy Slim in 2006 when he took his Brighton Beach Party up north to create the very first event when all of the 20,000 available tickets were sold almost immediately.

With around 70 acts performing across four stages in 2009 there’s also plenty of other entertainment on offer, which in past years has included a big top, a cinema and a silent disco (imagine a tent full of people wearing headphones dancing to the music only they can hear), gourmet food and drink stalls (with not a battered Mars Bar in sight), plus civilised camping facilities.

Acts of 2009 included the likes of The Prodigy, Billy Clyro, Basement Jaxx, The Flaming Lips, Dizzee Rascal, Pete Tong and Placebo.

According to the organisers, dates for the 2010 event are to be announced shortly with the Early Bird tickets available soon. We’ll keep you informed.
