Brothers is to be released in January 2010

Toby Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman star in this drama thriller about a renegade younger brother who cares for his sibling’s wife and family after he has gone missing in Afghanistan.

Based on the Susanne Bier’s film Brothers tells the story of Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire), an upstanding Marine and conventional family man married to his high school sweetheart, Grace (Natalie Portman), who goes missing overseas.

His younger brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhall), a no-good but charming ex-con who re-enters the family’s life at Sam’s farewell dinner just before he goes missing, steps in to take control of the family with shattering consequences.

It promises to be a story of people, relationships and emotions as the family struggle to deal with their loss and subsequent return of Sam from the dead. Directed by Jim Sheridan, the film sees Tobey Maguire reach new heights as an actor with stellar performances from Natalie Portman and eight-year-old Bailee Madison who plays Sam’s daughter.

Due for a UK release on 22nd January 2010, prepare for some heart-rending stuff and don’t forget to take the box of tissues.

Really excited for this movie. I just read another positive review: “BROTHERS is a powerfully emotional landscape of deep loves & deeper conflicts, where war, violence & haunting doubt undermine the foundations of family & friendships, leaving all in unreasoning turmoil, casting about for some small bit of stability, normality & civility.  Because of its superb ensemble cast, with standout performances by Maguire, Gyllenhaal, Portman, Shepard, Madison & Geare as a family nearly destroyed by stress, inner demons & war, BROTHERS is totally real & beautifully done, with memorable, noteworthy performances.”
