Steig Larsson died in Sweden in 2004 but shortly before his death, attempted to get three manuscripts he had written published. He posthumously won in 2009 the Galaxy Book Awards he won an award for The Books Direct Crime Thriller of The Year, with his best selling novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second novel in the million-selling Millennium Trilogy won the Best Swedish Crime Novel award in 2006 and has now been translated into English and now available for the first time in paperback in the UK.
The plot begins with Mikael Blomkvist, publisher of Millennium magazine, who has made his living exposing the crooked and corrupt practices of establishment Swedish figures. A young journalist approaches him with a meticulously researched thesis about sex trafficking in Sweden and those in high office who abuse underage girls, Blomkvist immediately throws himself into the investigation. Mikael is a character from the first book in the trilogy and also featured in the plot is Lisbeth Salander, the ‘Girl’ of the title and a “social misfit hacker extraordinaire”.
The Girl Who Played with Fire is released on 2nd July.
