As Joanna Lumley’s assessment would suggest, A Salute to Cooking - a new hardback recipe book published in aid of the scarlet-coated Chelsea Pensioners - has all the ingredients of success.
With over 100 recipes contributed by celebrities, politicians, business moguls and super-chefs everywhere, the resultant mêlée of mouth-watering dishes and succulent snacks is as diverse a bunch of recipes as you’re likely to find sandwiched between two covers and sometimes say as much about the people who contributed them as about the dishes themselves.

Founded in 1682 to care for old and injured soldiers, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is home to some 300 pensioners who have served as soldiers in the British Army with the average age of a Chelsea Pensioner being 83. All proceeds donated from sales of the book will go towards updating the current living accommodation which presently consists of windowless, nine foot square ‘berths’ into modern study bedrooms with en-suite facilities.

Miley Cyrus
Fans of Miley Ray Cyrus are in for a treat as the diminutive superstar of Hannah Montana fame gets ready to perform in a series of shows across the UK taking in the O2 in London and Dublin, LG Arena Birmingham and MEN Arena Manchester.
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus in 1992 and so-named because her parents believed she would accomplish great things, the teenage icon has gone on to do just that, achieving almost overnight success when she got the part of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana in the Disney Channel series. Although at first she was deemed too small for the role, she was called back to audition again because of her vitality and vibrancy. Disney Channel Executive President Gary Marsh described her as a person “who loves every minute of life.” She does exactly that; in fact her nickname, Miley came about because of her cheerful and “smiley” nature.
Miley is of Cherokee descent. Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus of Achy Breaky Heart fame; the country and western influenced song that achieved chart success in 1992 and in 2008 Miley asked that her name be changed officially to Miley Ray Cyrus to reflect his.
Miley’s musical career began with the release of a soundtrack CD of songs from the Hannah Montana show. When her debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus was released in 2007 the single See You Again reached the top ten. Both this album and a later album called Breakout in 2008 went straight to number one in the Billboard charts.
All songs on the album apart from two were co-written by Miley. Her single, The Climb from the Hannah Montana: The Movie Soudtrack went to number six and a track I Thought I Lost You, written for the soundtrack of the movie Bolt, earned a Golden Globe nomination.
Support will be provided at the concerts by Miley’s older brother Trace Cyrus and his band Metro Station. Prepare to be energised by the irrepressible superstar at a show that will leave you gasping for breath.

Backstreet Boys
The Backstreet Boys are back in town!
America’s most famous boy band is heading across the pond to perform a series of concerts in cities including Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Liverpool and Newcastle.
The band, comprising Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littress and AJ McLean, first got together in 1993 since when they’ve had 13 top 40 hits on the Billboard charts and sold over 100 million albums, probably making them the hottest boy band of all time.
After a musical break of three years, the band returned in 2005 with a new style of music, combining former dance styles with a guitar driven pop-rock sound and instruments.
Originally recruited by the boy band impresario Lou Pearlman, the boys first performed in schools and shopping malls before attaining international success in Europe. In 1999 the famous Millennium album containing the runaway hit I Want It That Away entered the Billboard charts at number 1 where it remained for 10 weeks. It sold over 12 million copies. A second album Black and Blue released in 2000 achieved platinum status in over 30 different countries with much of its material being co-written by members of the group.
The Backstreet Boys have reached a new maturity with a new album due for release in October 2009, working with the likes of Lady Gaga, OneRepublic and Akon to name only a few. Expect a dynamite show with spectacular and stunning effects.
